Marvin Gaye - Here, My Dear - 1978

Music, Lyrics & Art have always been a great way to express your feelings and the personal situation you are in. Marvin Gaye combined all three on his album ‘Here, my Dear’. On this album it became reality after he was confronted with the divorce papers from his then-wife Anna Gordy Gaye (sister of Motown Recouds founder Berry Gordon). One of the conditions of the settlement was that Anna would receive an extensive percentage of royalties in general as well as a portion of the advance of his next album.

Here, My Dear is Marvin’s result in an attempt to exorcise his personal demon’s about his broken marriage. Album art, title and lyrics are fully dedicated to this theme with subtle visual digs and sometimes less-than-subtle lyrical attacks.
